IN-HOUSE ENGINEERS: HOW WE CAN MAKE THEM EVEN BETTER

We are often asked how we can provide value to a road, utility, or site contractor who already has an in-house GPS model builder. The answer is simple, we work collaboratively with them to add the modeling expertise of our VCEs, we take up the slack to get large projects ready for construction, and we bring more modeling tools to the table. The value of creating timely and accurate 3D models pays huge dividends. Similarly, the benefit of finding a service provider that can seamlessly work with your in-house staff means making the most of your resources and investments.

Workflow Integration

Collaboration between in-house engineers & external VCEs improve project outcomes

When working with clients who have CAD specialists or civil engineers on their staff, we don’t want to be their replacement. We work closely with them in a variety of ways to become a part of their workflow. For example, if there are a lot of projects that need to be completed during a short time frame, we are an extra resource so that deadlines are met, and not missed. Or, when projects are large in scope and size, they could take someone weeks to complete, and sharing the load with an external partner will free up the in-house modeler for other tasks. An external resource available means fewer bottlenecks in moving all projects forward. Another scenario that comes up is if the person is new to their job and doesn’t have much experience, we can transfer knowledge to them through discussions and working together through any issues they may be having. We become a natural extension of the contractor’s team; a true partner in achieving the goals of the project.

Increased Technology

GPS-controlled machinery improves earthwork efficiency

As we all know to be true, more heads are better than one. A major advantage of using both in-house and external engineers is the increased breadth of technology that can be used. Someone might only have worked with one particular software which may not always be the best one to be used on a particular project. There are different techniques in various programs which could speed up typical methods. By having access to an external engineer, the in-house person can reach out to them and discuss what is needed and whether or not there is a better way of doing it or better technology that can be used. By discussing the details of the project with someone who has spent years building models, the in-house staff member will get to learn

The usage of GPS-controlled equipment is continually growing from year to year. To stay competitive, contractors need to adopt this technology and intergrade it into their projects. That means you need capable and reliable modelers on your team in one form or another; and like many of our clients, a hybrid approach is a great solution. If you’re unsure as to whether or not you need to hire an outside modeling firm give us a call. We will help you decide on a solution that best fits your team, streamlines your modeling process, and ultimately saves you money.
